Fire in the sky

Even when God knocks over his paints
he creates a masterpiece.

Monkey Whirligig

My neighbors across the street gave me this monkey and I promised to perch him on my fence and figure out how to make him wave at them. Now we wait for the wind to blow.

Angel

Music Box

Another piece I made while recovering from surgery in 2007. Not sure what the connection is between the Three Wise Men and the music, but it makes me laugh every time I play it.

Tiger Woods "Having a Bad Day"

I had fun making this while recovery from surgery in 2007.

The Wielder's Heart

The Wielder's Heart

Who etched this heart first into stone
By chisel, hand and mallet
And cracked in fragments, and broke apart
And formed this shapen piece of art,

A hand that grasps the hardened tool
And strikes it on its head
The sharp iron spike deep into stone
A shock through mallet, hand and bone

Into the wielder's soul it strikes
And shatters rock within
The hard struck blow, to shape the art
And chissel down the Wielder's heart

Another strike against the stone
Cold rock and steel collide
To crack the vein down deep inside
Fly out the shards, break open wide

One final blow the Wielder strikes
With all his strength and might
A shock through mallet, hand and bone
his heart, once warm, now carved in stone.

9/11 - Taken while in France

A quiet pleasure - to hang back a moment in the wood
and watch my friends walk into the morning light...

1996 - One of my oil paintings

Burning dark the sunset
of a lover's passing dawn,
Scorching fire
the branches
of memories barely gone,
Smoldering embers glowing
and dying out, the flame,
Charred the stumps are fading,
there's nothing to remain

Excerpt from the book: The Infinite Plan"
by Isabel Allende

"I was not deceived by my supposed triumphs; the truth is that all my life I had been pursued by a vague sensation of failure. It took me an eternity, nevertheless, to learn that the more I accumulated, the more vulnerable I was, because I live in a world where the opposite message is drummed into us. Tremendous lucidity is required… not to fall into that trap. I did not have it, and I had to sink to the very bottom to obtain it. At the moment my world caved in on me, when I had nothing left, I discovered I didn’t feel depressed, I felt free. I realized that the most important thing was not, as I had imagined, to survive or be successful; the most important thing was the search for my soul, which I had left behind in the quicksand of my childhood. When I found it, I learned that the power I had wasted such desperate energy to gain had always been inside me. I was reconciled with myself, I accepted myself with a touch of kindness, and then, and only then, was rewarded with my first glimpse of peace. I think that was the precise instant I became aware of who I truly am, and at last felt in control of my destiny.”

The Call

I called you tonight
knowing that you were not there,

But finding a subtle peace
in the monotonous sound
of the telephone,

I let it ring a few more times.
